Okay first I want to update you on my Mom's work situation. That whole taking away their paid vacation time thing? Yeah they are keeping that as is. I know, I agree, I think it HAS to be illegal. But corporate sent people down and scheduled meetings with people upset, so like all 300+ employees had a few minutes but corporate stood firm. They thought they were generous by "allowing" people who had already put in for vacations and paid for said vacations, to keep them, no pay of course.
My Mom doesn't know what they are going to do with the people who now have negative hours and no way to pay them back, but the people with bankable hours? They not only now have to use them within 2 years (and some have months saved up...why would you want someone to take months off and be paid, but still have to get someone to cover their job AND pay THEM?!!), but are making them use their bankable hours if they have a negative numbers. And a way to screw them even more? They want 2 banked hours for one negative hour!! How is any of this LEGAL?!! So my Mom went from 91 hours to 9, so she won't be paid when we have our vacation in May. But before the end of the year she will most likely accrue 3 more weeks, so the facility will be without it's staff development nurse for even more time. Makes no sense to me.
Anyway, my Dad tried to help distract me from missing my Mom, as she is basically my security blanket when I am this depressed...don't judge me! Anyway we went duck-pin bowling and each won a game! I could not believe it! Normally I SUCK!! But I got a few strikes and spares!! What in the world was in the water today?!! I couldn't believe it! I had so much fun!
Then we went to see Alice in Wonderland. Sans the 3-D, it makes my eyes go wonky!
It was such a crazy movie, but I liked it!! If you divide it into quarters, the first quarter was interesting because they are setting it all up, the second quarter was a little slow, which I was okay with (but the Dad was sighing so I was worried), but then the second HALF was AWESOME!! Johhny Depp was SO the best choice for the crazy...oh so crazy Mad Hatter! And Helena Bonham Carter can just PULL the Red Queen off amazing! But the breakout star was definitely Mia Wasikowska as Alice! She was wonderful! And I liked this version so much and liked that it was a RETURN to Wonderland. Alice's second. Plus, it stays truer to the real Alice in Wonderland. I actually HATE Disney's Alice animated movie. The animation is amazing, don't get me wrong, but the story? Hate it. Plus the flowers creep the crap out of me. Mean freak flowers!
They eliminated things from the story that were just too much a part of the story. My favorite movie version was the 2-part TV version starring a slew of famous stars, including Sammy Davis Jr, Beau Bridges and Natalie Gregory as Alice. It had the classic stuff! The Jabberwocky, the Loiking glass, the chessboard, etc. And it took 19 years, but it is finally available on DVD!!! So click HERE to own it!! It is a bit eccentric a version, and from 1985, but I adore it!
Anyway, this new Disney live action return to Wonderland has it all!! It has the Jabberwocky, frog footmen, pigs and just all the things I like about Alice's story. I can't remember reading the original book (though I might have), so I don't know if all these names the characters have in this new movie, are original, but I loved them! And Absolum the blue caterpillar being voiced by Alan Rickman (aka Snape), priceless! He makes a voiceover perfection!
It is just a crazy good film, crazy in the usual Tim Burton way. But this one I LIKE. I admit I loathed the latest Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, no one can do better than Gene Wilder's version. But I really enjoyed Tim's turn at Alice in Wonderland. It was...magic.

Hi Wendy!
I've kind-of stopped blogging in general. I try to get myself back into it, but I've lost that inspiration, ya know? I just logged in today to see if I could come up with something to blog about, and whatcha know, a comment from you! One of these days I'll be back to my cynical blogging self...on of these days...
I really wished that the Hatter and Alice would end up together.
I really, really did. They were SO cute in an awkward way.
I saw it in 3D, but it didn't really do anything for me. I would've liked to have seen it normal.
Thanks for the review. :)
You might wanna check out the version that the Syfy channel put out a month or two back then, Lee. Wendy, you may enjoy it as well! ;)

Andrew Lee Potter's no Depp, but he did the Hatter justice.
