Taken and Me

I went and saw "Taken" tonight, perfect night to go out, cold and snowy, and I have to say, Liam Neeson really surprised me. I am not a huge Liam fan, I liked him in The Haunting and as the voice of Aslan in The Chronicles of Narnia movies., but that is basically it. So to my knowledge, action man he is not.

But Liam kicks butt in this movie!! He kicks, karate chops, slams, shoots and sprints his way through the streets of Paris. He plays Brian, a man whose work, cost him his wife, and she took their daughter Kim, with her. Finally retired, he moves close, to make a real relationship with his daughter, who is now 17.

Just when he thinks they are making headway, she wants to have lunch with him, the rug is pulled out from underneath him, as his now rich (new marriage) ex shows up with their daughter, because they need his signature so she can go to Paris. He doesn't think a 17 year old girl and her friend should go alone, but "Mommy" gets mad at him, when Kim runs out crying, and he caves. Kim assures him they are staying with cousins of her friend and going to lots of museums. So off goes Kim with Amanda, her BFF, to Paris, all by themselves. Yeah, I think it is idiotic too, especially when they get to the airport, and Brian finds out Kim and Amanda are actually going all OVER Europe, following U2's tour, staying in richy hotels along the way. And the mom knew this and kept it from him. Mom tells him, she needs to grow up, without her Dad looking over her shoulder. How stupid can you get?! 2 young girls traveling all over Europe by themselves? It doesn't matter that they are staying in posh hotels, that is ridiculous!

Anyway, like stupid girls with no common sense, they meet a guy at the airport, share a cab, which tells them where they are saying. Amanda even mentions which FLOOR they are staying on, a whole floor to themselves, and that the cousins are away!! Kim is at least, why did you tell them that, but shrugs it off. BIG mistake. Kim is talking to her dad, Brian, when she sees Amanda being taken from the other side of the floor. Her dad walks her through the steps of what is about to happen, even gets her to do things that will help him find her, which he tells her he WILL do. And when she is taken and a breather comes on the line, Brian tells him, leave his daugher and he won't come after them. Bad boy shoulda listened, cuz Brian does "have a special set of skills that make him" these guys worst nightmare.

And boy, does he go after them! And it is non-stop action after this!! Stupid Mom is all "bring her back to me", which made me want to slap her around! If she had listened to her ex-husband, and she knew what he did for the government, none of this would be happening!! Aaugghh!

Liam is a force to be reckoned with, and I CHEERED as he "dealt" with the bad guys he encounters along the way. Don't worry, you cheer him on, because what these kidnappers are involved in, would piss anyone off. And you feel Neeson's pain, as he thinks he has found his daughter again and again, only to realize it is not her.

The question for you guys is...does he find her? He knows he only has a 96 hour time window before he will most likely never find her. Does he still have the skills to find his daughter before she disappears forever? Who exactly is involved in this, and can he figure it out in time? How far up does this thing go? As he travels further into "this world", is it even possible that he will find his daughter alive? And if he does, could she ever be the same? And if he doesn't, could he? All he wants is to be a Dad to his daughter, but will he ever have that chance? Go find out, and watch Liam kick the shiitake mushroom out of some seriously bad guys!

I needed a distraction, and this was a good one for awhile. I wanted to tell my commenters, I have had the evaluations and tests. I just remembered today, after talking to a fellow blogger, that in order to have my surgery approved I had to go through thid 600+ question test, which was when I was diagnosed with OCD. This was the first therapist who disgnosed this. It had a whole chart thing which showed where my depression, anxiety, and other disorders lied, on this chart, which is why I had to see her for months before she gave her approval. And I do have a doctor, but sometimes you have to be the one to say, this is NOT working for me. Because we are not cookie cutter people. Each of us is different and what works for some people, may not work for others. Some people can happily sit in therapy and chat about their thoughts and feelings, while for others it causes more stress and anxiety, which is not supposed to be the result. And some people, on just one med, can revert to their old selves and be fine, and others have to try mixes of meds, just to be in an okay place.

But I am doing what is needed to be done for me, I am giving meds a chance, which is hard for me, because over the years I have had very bad reactions to several meds, which has made me fearful of the side effects, so me being the one to push the idea of trying a new med, well it is huge, for me. I have even asked the person I trust most in the world, to tell me if and when I need to try therapy again, or have another evaluation done. And they have promised. So someone has my back that I trust, which is more than a lot of people have.Hugs to all looking out for me, it means so much to me.

I completely agree that you need to be the one to tell the doctor what is and what isn't working. I'm glad you feel like you can do that.

Therapy IS hard and scary. Not only have I been on the working side of it, but I was in therapy for an anxiety issue, a few years ago, and it sucked, but it helped me immensely, and it's pretty much nil now.

Therapy may not be for everyone, but I do know that therapy plus medication is much more effective than just meds.

I hope that you finally get the help and peace you are seeking! Like you said, it's not a cookie cutter approach and you need to do what works for you.

Good Review. I saw the previews and wasn't sure if I wanted to see this one, but now I may.

Sure glad you are adjusting. Hope things are smoother moving forward— don't want that up and down, not sleeping, feeling sick to go on too much longer.

Good for you on sticking with meds and trying to find out what works for you. That is the only way to get better - I know it takes a LOT of work.

I have to second Kristina's comment - therapy is really hard and it really sucks sometimes. But working on yourself is sort of that way. You end up going through and seeing a lot of stuff you don't want to.

Hope things look up soon.

I want to see Taken. I only read the first part of your post about it just in case there were spoilers.

I really hope that in talking with your mom and your doctor you can all work together to come up with what works best for you.
