Ramen Girl and Last Words

I watched a really cute movie, it was quite unexpected, liking it so much. It was called The Ramen Girl, and starred Brittany Murphy. Her alter ego, Abby, moved herself to Japan to be with her boyfriend, thinking he would be thrilled that their long-distance relationship was no longer long-distance. Sadly, two weeks into her new life, he takes off, saying he never ASKED her to move. In tears she enters a Ramen shop after hours, but speaking NO Japanese the owner can't get through to her, he wants her GONE but she doesn't get it, and so he serves her Ramen (real Ramen people, looks very different) and it warms her soul. So she decides she wants the owner to teach her to be a Master Ramen chef. No translators, so hilarity ensues. She begins by scrubbing toilets and pots, and the screaming matches between her and her Sensei are hilarious. The language barrier is at first so strong, and then the longer they are around one another, even though they don't speak the same language very much, they understand the other perfectly. They become extremely close and when she leaves to return to America, the glances shared just about made me cry, it was like a proud father giving his blessing to his daughter. It was just immensely entertaining, subtitles and all (except for Abby and a few friends she finds along the way), and made me happy I had given it a chance.

As for my other rental with Wes Bentley, in The Last Word? SKIP it. It was so depressing. The dude writes people's suicide notes for them. He is a writer and after a month long process, the poetry he writes could have been written by the person who offs themselves, he knows their minds that well by then, but geez! And he falls for one of his recent clients sisters, Winona Ryder. Juggling lies with her, would you tell a girl you liked, HEY I wrote your brothers suicide poem, and his newest client, a FOUL mouthed Ray Ramano, he is just headed for disaster and his lies catch up with him. Winona is disgusted by him, and he realizes through all this, he really has ISSUES. Having been beaten, so his Mom goes on a 13 state run with him, to try and ditch his Dad, who finally is killed, and the is turned into a Lifetime movie. A year after that his Mom dies in a car accident, drunk. So he gets thrown into foster care, which apparently was not a good experience for him. Thankfully, he manages to save Ray from jumping off the bridge after realizing he is screwed up, and a year later they are in a new business together, people getting stress off their shoulders by throwing things over a canyon and are rigged to explode, and Ray tapes it for them...wow. Yeah it was that horrible and depressing!! Holy crap, was that a waste of money!

I am off now to watch Jon & Kate Plus 8, let my depression reign free as this was so sad last week, if it is as sad I will probably be depressed, luckily, if I need breaks, there should be Will and Grace rerun on Lifetime right now. And then Frasier, thank goodness!! Those poor adorable kids...I have favorites, I am bad I know, but Alexis and Aiden are my faves, they are so cute!!post signature

I LOVE Brittany Murphy! Have you seen Little Black Book? That's a cute one. I have not watched Jon and Kate again since the premiere...

Never heard of either of these. Just shows you how out of touch I am with what's recent.

Never watched Jon and Kate— probably never will either.

Never heard of these movies. But then again, I haven't heard of most movies.

I've said it once, I'll say it again: Jon + Kate = Sad.

Wow, if you had told me who starred in the each movie before reviewing them I would have expected opposite results. Isn't that how it always goes?

Netflix here I come.

Ah, Jon and Kate. Same couch, but with a child sitting between. That cannot be good for that child. just saying...
